The Avalon Literary Review
Previously unpublished works only. Simultaneous submissions are okay, but please notify us if a
piece is accepted elsewhere. Please only submit to one category at a time. 

Categories and Length Limits:
Poetry - you may submit up to three poems (no more than 10 pages total)
Short Fiction - you may submit one short story (up to 2,500 words)
Flash Fiction - you may submit up to 2 pieces of flash fiction (up to 500 words each)
Personal Essay - you may submit one personal essay (up to 1,000 words)

Electronic submissions only. Your submission should be a Word document or PDF. Please include your name,
email address, mailing address and phone number on each page of your submission. 
Email work to submissions@avalonliteraryreview.com. No query is necessary.

Deadlines:
Winter Edition, submit by October 31st , we will respond by December 31st, Publication by January 31st
Spring Edition, submit by January 31st , we will respond by March 31st, Publication by April 30th
Summer Edition, submit by April 30th , we will respond by June 30th, Publication by July 31st
Fall Edition, submit by July 31st , we will respond by September 30th , Publication by October 31st

Payment:
5 copies of edition you’re published in for authors in the United States
2 copies of edition you're published in for authors outside the United States

Contests:
We run a contest for each edition with the same entry deadlines as listed above. One 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize 
will be awarded per edition not per category per edition.

Contest Prizes:
1st Prize - $100.00, publication and 5 copies 
2nd Prize - $50.00 and 5 copies 
3rd Prize - $25.00, publication and 5 copies
Honorable Mention (up to 25 works may receive an Honorable Mention) and 5 copies
